I grew up in Okawville, Illinois and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for college and law school. In 1992, I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies. In 1995, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Juris Doctor. After practicing law for three years in the St. Louis area, I chose to open my adoption practice in Nashville, Illinois. I have been practicing adoption law since 1998.
Though my professional life is busy, I balance it with an equally busy personal life. My husband is Ric Jones. We were married in 2000. He owns his own business. We have two children, our daughter, Ella was born in August of 2003 and our son, Hudson, was born in May of 2007. My family is excited and supportive of my adoption practice. I am always amazed by the individuals that I meet who have been involved in adoption and enjoy sharing their story of me. Of course, I am always happy to answer questions posed by those wondering how adoption works.
I am also a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. I was accepted into the Academy in 2000. The Academy is exclusive to attorneys who handle a required number of adoptions. The academy allows me to work with adoption attorneys from various states.
My law practice consists primarily in representing adoptive parents in adoptions. As attorney, I handle the various legal aspects of the case, including the execution of the Final and Irrevocable Consents. The consent of the birth parent(s) is signed in front of the judge at least 72 hours after the baby's birth. Once signed the consent is final and irrevocable. I also handle a variety of other adoptions, including agency, agency-assisted, related, DCFS, interstate and international re-adoptions.
All of my clients must complete a home study with a licensed adoption agency. The home study will include a criminal background check. To complete an Interstate adoption, a home study is required.
